About Us

The Chinese Association at UC Irvine, also known as CAUCI, was created in the fall of 1969 by a group of friends who played basketball together. The main intent of the organization was to create and promote Chinese culture and heritage upon the University and surrounding communities. 38 years later, CAUCI is now one of the largest and most active organizations on the UC Irvine campus with a member base of over 500 students. From CAUCI came other organizations such as our famous Chinese Association Dance Crew, our Hip Hop dance team, CA Martial Arts and CA Dragon Boat, our paddling team. Expanding its original mission statement, CAUCI has become a social, community service, and cultural club. As part of the APSA (Asian Pacific Student Association) umbrella, CAUCI joins 14 other Asian Cultural clubs.

Every year CAUCI puts on a Cultural Night that promotes and educates the community about how it feels to be a Chinese American growing up in the 21st century. These cultural shows comprise of a play, martial arts, cultural dancing, and many other aspect of Chinese culture.

In continuing cooperation and support for the Chinese Community, CAUCI also holds an annual High School Outreach. Our outreach targets low socio-economic status students from all races and ethnicities.

The main focus of the Chinese Association is to create social networks for its members. Coming to college and integrating oneself into the social scene is not a very easy transition. The Chinese Association makes it much easier to get involved, exposes its' members to an awesome college life, and lets them be a part of something so special that the experience can only be shared in CAUCI. Whether it be Ski Trip, the Chinese Heritage Festival, Ice Blocking, Broomballing, the All UC Dance Competition, or the end of the year Semi-Formal, the memories you make in CA will last you a lifetime.
